My Teaching Philosophy

For meaningful learning to happen, I am convinced that students need to be actively involved in the learning process, construct new knowledge upon the foundation of previous learning, solve problems and be exposed to real-world examples, as well as reflect on their own learning. These ideas about teaching in conjunction with my concern for students' well-being serve as the guiding principles for every action that I take as a professor.

Maria is one of, if not the best, TF(TA)'s I have ever had. She was very helpful, showed great enthusiasm, always provided great feedback, and, overall, was kind and respectful. I recognized her consistent effort to go above and beyond for her students. I would highly recommend her for the Teaching Fellow Award and my survey results speak to that.” - INT D 301 Student

“I think Maria does an excellent job at interacting with her various students in a holistic and focused approach. I do not have anything to suggest, simply I would let her know that she is doing a fantastic job. Especially, her enthusiasm for the material and her unique perspectives is what stood out to me as why she made an excellent teaching fellow.” - INT D 306 Student

“Thank you for another great semester Maria! I am so happy I was able to have her guidance for a whole year and I think she really helped me improve my writing and stay on track with the course objectives.” - INT D 306 Student
